About This Piece.

There is sometime peaceful about a rain storm on the plains. I grew up for a while in farm country and although storms can have a devestating element, they also bring life and are a welcome event for a lot of people around the world. I remember sitting with my friends during my childhood, listening to the rain, and I could feel the coolness refresh me and put energy back into my days. Storms to me have never been something to fear but something more to welcome and be uplifted by.

Incorporating more of a horizon allowed for me to explore my use of shadow to create a sense of depth to the plains. The heaviness of the sky compared to the lightness in the plains reverses the expected roles of the sky vs. the land and creates and interesting perspective for the viewer to comptemplate. By consuming the upper left sky with a deep blue, I am able to drive the viewers eyes through the painting in a thoughtful way.
