About This Piece.

The skies in Colorado can take on many colors. Sometimes they are a gentle cool gradient with a hint of warm yellow on the horizon and other times the skies can be lit up like an inferno. I wanted to capture the intense feeling of a sunset with just a small amount of blue sky fighting to stay around as the rest of it subcomed to the yellows, oranges, and reds. The power in the bright colors represents the strength of nature and the beauty in something so all-comsuming. 

Continuing to evolve my palette knife technique and explore ways of blending colors while establishing depth and weight to objects that otherwise should feel light and airy. This piece plays with extreme contrasts and subduded grounding as a way to balance and drive the viewers eye from the upper left corner to the lower right and then along the bottom of the piece. The contrast contains the blue and makes it the subtle focus.
